Description

Castor oil is one of the most well-known and traditionally used products in folk medicine and cosmetics.

In Ancient Egypt, it was included in balms for mummification and for protecting the skin from dehydration under the scorching sun.

According to legend, Cleopatra used it to enhance hair shine and soften the skin.

In Ayurvedic texts, castor oil is mentioned as a remedy that may support nail strength, wound care, and eyelash enhancement.

In China, it was used in massage practices to support healthy circulation, and in Africa—as a natural conditioner for curly hair.

By the 19th century, European pharmacists included it in salves, and later it became a base for early facial creams.

Castor oil is extracted through cold pressing of Ricinus communis seeds. It has a thick, viscous texture and a unique composition.

According to scientific studies, its primary active component—ricinoleic acid (up to 90%)—is known for its moisturizing, soothing, and mild antimicrobial properties.

Oleic acid may help beneficial components penetrate deeper into the skin. Linoleic and stearic acids support the restoration of the lipid barrier and help soften rough areas.

Vitamins E and A act as natural antioxidants. Minerals like calcium and magnesium support the condition of hair roots and nails.

The oil's hygroscopic properties allow it to attract moisture, making it potentially valuable for dry skin and brittle hair.

For the face:

Helps maintain skin hydration and elasticity, may reduce the appearance of fine lines and flaking.

Its low comedogenicity means it is unlikely to clog pores, making it potentially suitable for blemish-prone skin.

Spot application may help reduce visible signs of irritation.

May support more even skin tone and texture.

For the hair:

May support stronger hair roots and reduce the signs of dryness and brittleness.

Helps maintain scalp comfort and may assist in improving the appearance of dry flakes.

Adds a healthy-looking shine and smoothness to hair strands.

For the body:

Helps soften rough areas such as elbows, knees, and heels.

With regular use, it may support the appearance of smoother skin in areas affected by warts, papillomas, or fungal imbalances.

May be beneficial as part of care for skin prone to psoriasis or eczema. In massage blends, it can contribute to improved skin tone and circulation.
